STEM in Action competition

STEM IN ACTION:
Thanks to Joanne McGovern, a design engineer from South West College, Kesh PS and Community Nursery pupils have all been involved in this year's Primary Engineer's Leaders' Award, 'If I were an engineer'.  The competition provided us with a visit from Joanne to discuss the wide and varied work of engineers.

As well as talk to our children, Joanne brought Lego and set the children a challenge to build a bridge.  From the youngest children in nursery to our Year 7s they set to work to create some fantastic models.

Following Joanne's visit, the children had to think about an everyday problem they, or someone they know, might have and try to design a solution.  The variety of ideas the children came up with was so varied and mind-blowing ranging from: alarms to help elderly relatives, solar powered chargers in work vans for tools, automatic hay feeders for horses, wardrobes with scanning functions to choose your outfit based on your choice of shoes (!), robots that can help with homework, sock pairers for those random single socks (we all need this!)...the list goes on!

With all entries in the post, we await news if any of our ideas make it past the judges tables!
